On November 9, 2020, in an executive meeting, the City of Saint Charles, Illinois approved the Kane of Pride gas station at Main and Kirk, with the understanding that the city would provide a crosswalk across Kirk Road. In 2021, I alerted city staff and the council that developing this corner and installing sidewalks around the gas station would create a dangerous pedestrian crossing. To date, there are no plans to build the promised crosswalk.

On June 10, 2024, in another executive meeting, city staff decided not to include sidewalks to the south of the soon-to-be Fox Haven Square development at Main and Kirk, because it would require the installation of crosswalks.

On July 31, I met with city staff and the council, only to learn that the city has no plans or intentions of ever installing safe pedestrian crossings on Kirk Road, on either side of Main Street.

The crosswalk at Main and Kirk. There is no barrier to imply no West to East crossing.
This neglect puts everyone at risk: children, our elders, those living with disabilities, the impoverished, the climate-conscious, the health-conscious, and anyone who ever chooses to cross Kirk Road. Whether they're shopping, eating, obtaining a Real ID, banking, getting a haircut, or simply walking or running, they do so at their own peril.

The continued development of these corners without crosswalks creates unsafe conditions. As residents, we must take action to ensure that the Fox Haven Development includes sidewalks to the south and crosswalks at all four corners of Main Street and Kirk Road.
Our mission is to persuade the City of Saint Charles to include crosswalk development at all 4 corners of Kirk Road and Main Street with the Fox Haven Square development.
